A senior mechanical engineering specialist responsible for designing, reviewing, and overseeing HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems for large-scale projects across various sectors, providing technical leadership, client interface, and ensuring project quality and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Perform and direct complex HVAC system design, including ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for large-scale buildings.
Independently handle all Mechanical disciplines and assist with Plumbing and Fire Protection designs as needed.
Interface with clients and design team members to ensure project requirements are met.
Serve as QAQC reviewer and oversee technical quality of engineering work.
Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to design staff and less experienced engineers.
Develop and review Revit BIM models for HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems throughout project phases.
Review shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
Participate in project meetings, including Owner, Architect, and Construction Administration meetings, focusing on project budget and progress.
Lead or participate in value engineering sessions to optimize project design and costs.
Conduct site visits to verify existing conditions, observe construction progress, and ensure compliance with design intent.
Requirements
Minimum of 10 years of related experience in mechanical engineering.
Current Professional Engineer (PE) license in the United States.
Strong knowledge of Life Safety Codes.
Advanced knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and practices.
Ability to serve in QAQC process and as an independent reviewer.
Must be a critical thinker and highly analytical.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong ability to interface effectively with clients and members of the design team.
Able to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously.
Experience in computer applications for engineering design programs such as Revit, Trane Trace, or Trane 3D Plus.
Ability to perform complex design of ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for HVAC systems for large-scale buildings.
Ability to prepare Revit BIM modeling of construction drawings of HVAC systems from schematic design to construction administration phases, including layout, sketches, and detail drawings.
Ability to perform Revit BIM modeling for plumbing and fire protection systems as necessary.
Experience reviewing and accepting shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
Experience conducting job site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress, including physical site walk-throughs.
Ability to attend and participate in construction meetings and interface effectively with clients and project team members.
Experience responding to RFIs and reviewing change orders in the preparation of construction documents.
Experience participating or leading value engineering sessions with architectural and engineering teams.
Experience conducting staff development activities including work planning, budget development, and scheduling in conjunction with the Project Manager.
Ability to oversee, guide, mentor, and provide technical leadership to designers and engineering team members.
Experience in preparing and reviewing construction documents and managing project activities related to design and construction phases.
Physical ability to conduct site visits, including walking through construction sites.
Must be a fully qualified professional capable of performing work with a high degree of latitude, including some ambiguity in work tasks.
