This position involves designing HVAC systems, including ductwork, piping, and equipment selection, preparing construction drawings using Revit BIM, and collaborating with project teams on various building projects in educational, healthcare, and commercial sectors under the supervision of a licensed engineer.
Key Responsibilities
Design HVAC systems, including ductwork, piping, and equipment selection, for building projects.
Assist with Plumbing and Fire Protection system designs as needed.
Calculate heating and cooling loads and develop system layouts using energy modeling software.
Create Revit BIM models of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems from schematic to construction phases.
Review shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
Specify mechanical equipment such as boilers, chillers, and air handling units.
Conduct site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress.
Interface with clients and project team members during meetings and project coordination.
Requirements
Bachelor or Master’s degree in Engineering required.
Bachelor or Master’s degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program preferred.
Minimum of 4 years of related experience required.
Experience in designing HVAC systems including ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for building design.
Ability to independently perform designs of ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for HVAC systems for smaller, less technical projects under the supervision of a professional engineer for complex projects.
Experience in calculating heating and cooling loads, and designing ductwork and piping using energy modeling software.
Proficiency in preparing Revit BIM modeling of construction drawings of HVAC systems from schematic design to construction administration phases, including layout, sketches, and detail drawings.
Ability to perform Revit BIM modeling for plumbing and fire protection systems as necessary.
Experience in editing specifications relating to existing or new projects.
Ability to specify mechanical equipment such as boilers, chillers, and air handling units.
Experience in reviewing shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
Experience in interfacing effectively with clients and project team members by attending Owner, Architect, Construction Administration (OAC) meetings in conjunction with project budget.
Ability to independently research as needed and respond to emergent issues.
Experience in gathering information to respond to RFIs and reviewing change orders in the preparation of construction documents.
Ability to perform job site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress, including physical walk-through of sites.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Experience in using computer applications for engineering design programs such as Revit, Trane Trace, or Trane 3D Plus.
Possession of EIT or FE certification in the United States preferred.
LEED accreditation preferred.
