This position involves designing HVAC systems, including ductwork, piping, and equipment selection, for various building projects, while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team and ensuring compliance with specifications and client needs.
Key Responsibilities
Design HVAC systems, including ductwork, piping, and equipment selection, for building projects.
Perform load calculations, energy modeling, and layout of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
Create construction drawings and BIM models using Revit for HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
Specify mechanical equipment such as boilers, chillers, and air handling units.
Review shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
Attend project meetings with clients, architects, and construction teams to coordinate project details.
Conduct site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress.
Assist in preparing and reviewing construction documents, RFIs, and change orders.
Requirements
Bachelor or Master’s degree in Engineering required.
Bachelor or Master’s degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program preferred.
Minimum of 4 years of related experience required.
Experience in designing HVAC systems including performing calculations of heating and cooling loads, layout and design of ductwork and piping using energy modeling software.
Ability to perform Revit BIM modeling of construction drawings of HVAC systems from schematic design to construction administration phases, including layout, sketches, and detail drawings.
Ability to perform Revit BIM modeling for plumbing and fire protection systems as necessary.
Experience in specifying mechanical equipment such as boilers, chillers, and air handling units.
Experience in reviewing shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
Experience in interfacing effectively with clients and project team members by attending Owner, Architect, and Construction Administration (OAC) meetings.
Ability to independently research and respond to emergent issues as needed.
Experience in gathering information to respond to RFIs and review of change orders in the preparation of construction documents.
Ability to perform job site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress, including physical walk-through of sites.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Proficiency in computer applications for engineering design programs such as Revit, Trane Trace, or Trane 3D Plus.
Willingness to work onsite in one of the CannonDesign offices in Buffalo, NY; Chicago, IL; or Pittsburgh, PA, as required.
Ability to handle multiple projects effectively.
