The Test Technician supports the testing and data collection of solid-state batteries in a research and development environment, operating and maintaining test equipment, executing protocols, and ensuring data accuracy to aid in battery development and optimization.
Key Responsibilities
Execute electrochemical test protocols including cell cycling, formation, rate testing, and diagnostics
Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot battery testing equipment such as cyclers and environmental chambers
Assemble test fixtures, load and unload cells, and ensure proper test setup and documentation
Monitor ongoing tests, respond to alarms or faults, and communicate findings
Collect, review, and validate test data for accuracy and consistency
Identify and escalate anomalies or outliers in test data
Compile and communicate test results to support R&D decisions
Support development and refinement of test procedures, SOPs, and documentation standards
Coordinate test scheduling, sample flow, and prioritize testing activities
Maintain organized test areas with proper labeling, tracking, and storage of samples
Uphold safety standards in handling cells, chemicals, and test equipment
Assist in training other technicians on test procedures and equipment
Write scripts to automate routine testing and improve lab workflows
Track and manage open issues related to battery testing from initial flag to resolution
Requirements
Associate's degree in a technical field, or equivalent hands-on training experience
2 years of hands-on experience in a technical, laboratory, or precision manufacturing environment (e.g., batteries, semiconductors, medical devices, aerospace, automotive)
Demonstrated ownership of processes or equipment, including troubleshooting and continuous improvement
Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting laboratory or test equipment
Ability to follow detailed test procedures and maintain accurate, high-quality records
Strong attention to detail and data integrity, with the ability to identify inconsistencies in data
Working knowledge of safety practices, including chemical handling, PPE, and lab protocols
Ability to organize and manage multiple tests or tasks in parallel
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Experience with battery testing (preferred), including cyclers, formation, EIS, environmental testing
Familiarity with different battery test protocols such as Cycle Life, HPPC, Rate Testing (preferred)
Experience troubleshooting Arbin cell cyclers and MITS software (preferred)
Ability to perform precise manual tasks while standing at a glovebox for up to 8 hours per day
Fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination required to manipulate tools and materials through glove sleeves
Ability to maintain a standing or slightly leaned position for long durations, including reaching and extending arms within the glovebox environment
Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver equipment or materials weighing up to 25 lbs occasionally
