A research and development technician responsible for producing and characterizing battery materials and cells to support innovation in solid-state battery technology, with a focus on safety, high energy density, and manufacturability.
Key Responsibilities
Produce battery materials such as electrolyte, electrodes, and cell components
Characterize cell materials using analytical techniques (e.g., SEM, XRD, TGA, Raman)
Assemble solid-state cells and prepare them for testing
Discuss characterization results to understand material impact on cell performance
Maintain laboratory organization, cleanliness, and equipment calibration
Perform preventative maintenance on lab equipment
Document materials and processes accurately and promptly
Work in dry room and glove box environments for extended periods
Collaborate with team members to cast anodes and perform quality checks
Requirements
Experience working in an environment that requires strong attention to detail and precision, such as a lab or a kitchen
Consistent and thorough documentation, and adherence to standard operating procedures
Ability to work in a dry room and a glove box for extended periods of time
Ability to stand or sit for long periods of time and perform hand intensive repetitive tasks
Above-average fine manual dexterity and visual acuity
Working knowledge of Excel and Word
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills and experience working with team members to overcome technical challenges
Clear written and verbal skills to logically communicate ideas and thought processes
Adherence to lab and work safety policies
Ability to read and understand Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering, or a similar field lab science
Previous glovebox dry room experience
Previous chemical manufacturing experience
Familiarity with using analytical tools such as SEM, XRD, TGA, FTIR
At least 1 year of work experience in a fast-paced lab or manufacturing environment requiring high accuracy execution of processes or experiments
Experience working in a chemical laboratory and handling hazardous materials
Basic knowledge of chemistry, including understanding of acids, bases, pH, and associated risks
Experience in powder processing techniques such as batching, mixing, coating, calendaring, or other densification techniques
Ability to reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work
