Job Description
The Pilot Line Manager at Blue Current oversees the production of high-energy, safe silicon solid-state batteries by managing manufacturing teams, developing battery components, and ensuring quality and safety in a fast-paced, innovative environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage pilot line technicians and oversee daily manufacturing activities for battery cells
- Plan and schedule production of prototype and sample battery cells and components
- Produce battery materials, powders, electrodes, and assemble cells
- Characterize cell materials using analytical techniques and interpret results
- Identify process and equipment improvements in collaboration with process engineering
- Maintain safety standards and manage hazardous waste and cleaning areas
- Perform preventative maintenance and equipment calibrations
- Document materials and processes accurately and update data sheets
- Support prototype cell manufacturing and sample production for customers
Requirements
- Previous team management experience of 5 years or more in a manufacturing or laboratory environment.
- Experience working in an environment that requires strong attention to detail and precision.
- Consistent and thorough documentation, and adherence to standard operating procedures.
- Experience handling hazardous materials and waste management for lab space.
- Ability to work in a dry room and a glove box for extended periods of time.
- Ability to stand or sit for long periods of time and perform hand intensive repetitive tasks.
- Above-average fine manual dexterity and visual acuity.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills and experience working with team members to overcome technical challenges.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills to logically convey ideas and thought processes.
- Adherence to lab and work safety policies.
- Previous powder process and machine experience, including powder mixing, synthesis process, sieving, classification, and handling powders, solvents, and various types of mixers.
- Experience with battery cell assembly processes such as stamping, stacking, JR winding, ultrasonic welding, and pouch sealing.
- Previous glovebox dry room experience.
- Previous chemical manufacturing experience.
- Familiarity with analytical tools such as SEM, XRD, TGA, FTIR, DSC, and TGA.
- Experience working in a fast-paced lab or manufacturing environment requiring high accuracy execution of processes or experiments.
- Basic knowledge of chemistry, including understanding of acids, bases, pH, and associated risks.
- Ability to produce various battery components including powders, electrodes, and assemblies.
- Ability to produce prototype cells and support sample cell production.
- Ability to produce and characterize cell materials using analytical techniques such as SEM, XRD, TGA, EIS, and CV.
- Ability to create plans and schedules for manufacturing prototype battery components, cells, and sample cells for customers.
- Experience managing raw material and component inventory and creating purchasing plans.
- Ability to quickly adapt to evolving processes of core technology while maintaining detailed notes and updated data sheets.
