A Staff Battery Scientist responsible for developing and optimizing solid-state electrode materials, particularly composite cathodes, to improve battery performance and safety in the company's innovative silicon solid-state battery technology.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and test composite solid state cathode materials and formulations to improve cell performance and safety
Optimize and engineer composite solid-state cathodes based on interactions with solid electrolytes
Identify failure modes of solid-state cathodes
Assemble solid state cells and perform electrochemical testing
Characterize cell materials using analytical techniques such as SEM, XRD, TGA, etc.
Analyze electrochemical testing and analytical results to understand material impacts on performance
Document and share experimental results with team members
Develop and submit intellectual property related to battery materials
Requirements
PhD or MS in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or a similar field with a focus on batteries, capacitors, fuel cells, or other electrochemical devices
Track record of publishing peer-reviewed journal articles
Experience testing lithium-ion battery materials, with a strong understanding of lithium based cells, cell components and their interactions inside the cell
At least 2 years of experience working at a battery manufacturer or R&D company (highly preferred)
Experience with electrochemical tests such as Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS), Galvanostatic Intermittent Titration Technique (GITT), Hybrid Pulse Power Characterization (HPPC), Cyclic Voltammetry (CV), and others
Familiarity and experience working with analytical tools such as Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC)
Ability to develop and test composite solid state cathode materials and formulations that improve cell performance and safety
Ability to optimize and engineer composite solid-state cathodes based on understanding of cathode interactions with solid electrolyte
Ability to identify failure modes of a solid-state cathode
Experience assembling solid state cells and performing electrochemical testing to analyze the impact of cathode active materials and electrode composition on cell performance
Ability to characterize cell materials using analytical and electrochemical techniques
Ability to analyze electrochemical testing and analytical characterization results to understand the impact of cathode material properties on cell performance
Ability to document and analyze experimental results
Strong communication skills and experience sharing results with team members and leadership
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills and experience working with team members to overcome technical challenges
Ability to develop and submit intellectual property
