A Senior Battery Scientist role focused on developing and testing solid-state silicon anode materials to improve battery performance and safety, involving hands-on research, electrochemical testing, and collaboration to drive innovation in energy storage technology.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and test composite solid state, silicon anode materials and formulations to improve cell performance and safety
Assemble solid state cells and perform electrochemical testing to evaluate the impact of anode materials on cell performance
Characterize cell materials using analytical techniques such as SEM, XRD, TGA, etc., and electrochemical methods like EIS and CV
Analyze experimental results to understand the relationship between anode material properties and cell performance
Document and communicate experimental findings to team members
Contribute to setting the technical direction for cell development and company strategy
Develop and submit intellectual property related to battery materials and technologies
Requirements
PhD or MS in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or similar field with a focus on batteries, capacitors, fuel cells, or other electrochemical devices
Track record of peer-reviewed journal articles
Experience testing silicon active materials and or polymer materials for silicon anodes
2 years of experience working at a battery manufacturer or R&D company is highly preferred
Experience with electrochemical tests such as Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS), Galvanostatic Intermittent Titration Technique (GITT), Hybrid Pulse Power Characterization (HPPC), Cyclic Voltammetry (CV), and others
Familiarity and experience working with analytical tools such as Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC)
Ability to develop and test composite solid state, silicon anode materials and formulations that improve cell performance and safety
Ability to assemble solid state cells and perform electrochemical testing to analyze the impact of silicon active materials and electrode composition on cell performance
Ability to characterize cell materials using various analytical and electrochemical techniques
Ability to analyze electrochemical testing and analytical characterization results to understand the impact of anode material properties on cell performance
Ability to document and analyze experimental results
Ability to present and share results with team members
Ability to help set the technical direction for cell development and company technical strategy
Experience in developing and submitting intellectual property
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
