Job Description
The role involves managing the development of utility-scale solar photovoltaic projects, including project management, economic analysis, permitting, negotiations, and stakeholder engagement to support the growth of renewable energy infrastructure across California and the Desert Southwest.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop utility-scale solar power generation projects from greenfield sites.
- Engage community, local, and state institutions for project support.
- Prepare permit applications across multiple jurisdictions.
- Manage contractors, vendors, and consultants to ensure project timeline and budget adherence.
- Negotiate tax abatements, land use agreements, mitigation settlements, and other project agreements.
- Negotiate power purchase agreements with utilities and energy offtakers.
- Collaborate with finance teams on financial feasibility, evaluation, and analysis.
- Assist with permitting and environmental compliance during construction and operation.
Requirements
- Candidates must have 7-12 years of experience in the energy industry, specifically in energy infrastructure development.
- Candidates must demonstrate sound industry knowledge related to utility-scale solar photovoltaic projects, including full-cycle development, interconnection, permitting, real estate, state and federal regulation, utility procurement goals, politics, and law impacting renewable energy project development in eastern energy markets.
- Candidates must have strong financial analysis skills and be able to translate contracts and financing agreements into concise financial and economic analysis.
- Candidates must have experience in managing the comprehensive development of utility-scale solar power generation facilities, including engaging community, local, and state institutions for project support.
- Candidates must assist in the preparation of permit applications for solar facilities across multiple local, state, and federal jurisdictions.
- Candidates must manage contractors, vendors, and consultants to maintain project timeline and budget.
- Candidates must negotiate tax abatements, land use agreements, mitigation settlements, and various other agreements.
- Candidates must negotiate Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with utilities and other energy offtakers.
- Candidates must work with the finance department during financial feasibility analysis, evaluation, and financing processes.
- Candidates must assist with permitting and environmental compliance throughout the construction and operation of projects.
- Candidates must have detailed understanding of the interconnection process, study process, contracting, utility requirements, financial obligations, and scope execution by utilities to site projects optimally and advance them through Commercial Operation Date (COD).
- Candidates must have a solid understanding of economic drivers within the renewable energy business.
- Candidates must be able to frame issues by providing context, analysis, recommendations, and risk-benefit tradeoffs in both written and verbal formats to project teams and senior management.
- Candidates must have the ability to create control over costs, terms, and schedules of key project milestones dependent on external counterparties, often without strong commercial recourse.
- Candidates must understand project scheduling relationships to prioritize resource allocation effectively.
- Candidates must be highly resourceful, capable of designing processes to advance project milestones and navigate key risks with little established structure.
- Candidates must be highly proficient in MS Excel (advanced proficiency required), Project, Word, PowerPoint, and Google Earth.
- Candidates must be an independent self-starter capable of meeting deadlines and delivering quality products with minimal oversight.
- Candidates must have the ability to recognize opportunities, identify and evaluate risks in development, and communicate these effectively.
- Candidates must demonstrate the ability to manage a large workload, support colleagues' processes, prioritize tasks, and juggle competing deadlines.
- Candidates must be detail-oriented with a strong sense of personal responsibility and ownership of work product.
- Candidates must possess excellent personal organizational and pattern recognition skills.
