Job Description

The Test Triage Analyst I at Aurora is responsible for analyzing system failures and root causes in autonomous vehicle testing environments, collaborating with teams to improve safety and performance, and maintaining documentation and processes related to autonomous system diagnostics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform root cause analysis of autonomy system failures in real-world and simulated testing environments.
  • Collaborate with internal and external experts to ensure alignment on failure analysis and severity assessments.
  • Synthesize data into reports, feedback, and visualizations for various teams.
  • Utilize web-based tools to support root cause analysis and analytics work across test modalities.
  • Participate in peer quality assurance to maintain calibration with Aurora standards.
  • Facilitate meetings with stakeholders and present analytical insights on autonomy performance.
  • Create, maintain, and own hierarchical tags based on evolving taxonomies to identify failure trends and issues.
  • Maintain documentation and training materials to keep teams informed and prepared.

Requirements

  • Perform autonomy system failure and issue root cause analysis across real-world and simulated testing environments, through learned expertise of sub-system and system-wide architecture and performance standards.
  • Conduct critical analysis that consists of deep technical knowledge, hypothesis formation, thorough investigation of autonomy capabilities and modules, hypothesis confirmation or revisions based on additional data.
  • Collaborate with internal and external domain experts to ensure alignment on root cause analysis and severity scoring frameworks.
  • Synthesize data into reports, feedback, and visualizations to create digestible information for a variety of teams.
  • Quickly use and provide feedback for a variety of web-based tools required to perform root cause analysis and supporting analytics work across test modalities.
  • Participate in peer-to-peer quality assurance to stay calibrated within the team and to current Aurora standards.
  • Facilitate meetings with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Present analytical insights related to autonomy capability performance.
  • Create, maintain, apply, and own hierarchical tags based on existing and evolving taxonomies to help teams understand common failures, trends, and top issues using a common reference.
  • Keep documentation and training materials up to date to ensure the team is informed and prepared.
  • Possess superb analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to verbalize the why and how of work being performed.
  • Demonstrate passion for working with teams and collaborating with partners.
  • Understand, communicate, and analyze the technical details of system-level failures and differentiate sub-system level failures of highly complex autonomous software systems, including root cause analysis, troubleshooting, escalations, and corrective actions.
  • Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills to bridge the gap between operations, safety, product, and technical groups.
  • Create, execute, and optimize processes, and identify workflow bottlenecks with potential solutions.
  • Have planning and organizational abilities that allow for independent prioritization and follow-through.
  • Be comfortable navigating a fast-paced, fluid working environment.
  • Hold a BS or MS degree in a STEM-related field such as Statistics, Operations Research, Economics, Computer Science, or Engineering.
  • Have at least 1 year of experience working with autonomous vehicles or robotics industries, with experience in domains such as triage, motion planning, perception, mapping, localization, and testing operations.
  • Have experience working in test evaluation, root cause analysis, or quality assurance control domains.
  • Possess intermediate knowledge and experience with coding, scripting, and querying languages such as Python, C++, BASH, SQL, PostgreSQL, or JQL, and experience with relational databases.
  • Have experience with simulation software.
