Job Description

The role involves leading a team of operations engineers to ensure the systemic health and operational readiness of Aurora's autonomous vehicle fleet through proactive reliability engineering, automation, and data monitoring to support scalable, safe, and efficient self-driving technology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage, mentor, and scale a team of operations engineers and reliability specialists focused on fleet health and operational readiness.
  • Drive proactive incident prevention through root cause analysis and implementing hardware and software fixes.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to develop and deploy automated diagnostic tools, scripts, and alerting systems.
  • Oversee fleet health monitoring using telemetry, data dashboards, and diagnostic tools to predict and resolve sensor and compute failures.
  • Act as the primary communication link between Operations, Product, and Infrastructure engineering, reporting reliability status to senior management.
  • Develop and implement support processes, incident response playbooks, and workflows to support scalability and new technology deployment.
  • Conduct training sessions to enhance team skills in Linux, networking, system troubleshooting, and automation.
  • Track and develop key performance metrics such as MTTR, uptime, SLAs, and SLOs to support 24/7 operations.

Requirements

  • 5 years of experience managing Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), Technical Operations, or Sustaining Engineering teams in a high-growth, high-stakes tech environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree or experience in a relevant field such as Information Technology, Computer Science, or Engineering.
  • 3 years of direct people management experience managing teams of 5 members or more.
  • Proficient in deep technical areas including Linux environments, IT systems, hardware and software integrations, networking, and sensor suites such as Lidar and Radar.
  • Proven experience establishing incident response frameworks, automation protocols, and performance metrics.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical systems issues for non-technical operations stakeholders.
  • Strong bias for action and the ability to make high-pressure decisions regarding vehicle safety and operational status.

Base salary range of $108,000 - $155,000 per year
