Job Description
The Staff Software Engineer, Vehicle Platforms at Aurora is responsible for designing and leading the development of onboard vehicle systems, including compute, sensors, and networking, to ensure a scalable, reliable, and high-performance self-driving fleet platform.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect and lead the design of the vehicle compute and networking stack to ensure modularity and scalability.
- Drive the technical roadmap for hardware health monitoring and fleet-wide performance optimization.
- Lead integration efforts for new sensors and embedded devices, defining standards for low-latency data interfaces.
- Establish engineering standards for Hardware-in-the-Loop testing and automated performance profiling to ensure safety and stability.
- Mentor senior engineers and oversee complex system-level challenges related to Linux kernel tuning and networking protocols.
Requirements
- 10 years of professional software engineering experience, with a proven track record of leading large-scale architectural projects at the hardware software interface.
- Expert-level C programming skills and the ability to design high-performance, thread-safe, and memory-efficient systems in a Linux environment.
- Experience with networking protocols including low-level CAN bus, UDP, TCP and high-level gRPC, RTP, HTTP communication.
- 7 years of experience in system-level development, including deep knowledge of Linux networking stacks, performance profiling, and hardware bring-up.
- Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional projects that require coordination between software, hardware, and systems engineering teams.
