Job Description
The Staff Opto-Mechanical Designer at Aurora will work with a leading R&D lidar team to develop advanced FMCW lidar systems, focusing on mechanical and opto-mechanical design, interface with electrical components, and ensuring durability for automotive applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the R&D Lidar team to design and develop FMCW lidar systems with high resolution and extended range.
- Create and review mechanical designs and 2D drawings for opto-mechanical components using CAD software.
- Design mechanical parts that interface with electrical components such as PCBAs and sensors.
- Develop components suitable for high volume manufacturing processes like injection molding, die casting, and stamping.
- Design for durability in harsh environments, including shock, vibration, and temperature cycling.
- Troubleshoot hardware systems and perform root-cause analysis to resolve design issues.
- Participate in critical design decisions through documentation and presentation of design concepts.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree (BS) or Master's degree (MS) in Mechanical, Opto-Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- At least 7 years of industry experience in Mechanical Engineering.
- At least 5 years of experience specifically in Opto-Mechanical design.
- Proficiency in CAD design, with Catia preferred.
- Experience in creating 2D drawings using GDT (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
- Experience in designing mechanical parts that interface with electrical components such as PCBAs and sensors.
- Exposure to component design for high volume manufacturing processes including injection molding, die casting, and stamping.
- Experience designing for harsh environments involving shock, vibration, and temperature cycling with long-term durability considerations.
- Experience in troubleshooting and root-cause analysis of hardware systems.
- Strong presentation and documentation skills for participating in critical design decisions.
- Willingness to travel within the US and abroad typically 3-4 times a year.
