Job Description
The Senior Staff Backend Tech Lead at Aurora is responsible for designing and building scalable cloud backend services and APIs to support autonomous vehicle fleet management and partner integrations, leading technical strategy, mentoring engineers, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to enhance Aurora's commercial operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead design and implementation of solutions for autonomous vehicle fleet management and partner API integrations.
- Architect and develop scalable cloud backend services, APIs, and data pipelines for real-time and offline data flows.
- Add new features to existing products and develop new systems to enhance fleet operations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Product Managers, Designers, and Operations to deliver solutions.
- Mentor and grow senior engineers, promote engineering excellence through code reviews and design discussions.
- Translate operational data and autonomy metrics into actionable insights via operator-facing tools and APIs.
Requirements
- Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 8 years of industry experience in software development, with a proven track record of designing, building, and operating large-scale backend systems.
- Deep expertise in cloud backend development, including scalable web services, distributed systems, and modern API design.
- Experience working with Product Management and UI/UX Design teams to define and deliver features that impact end users at scale.
- Proficiency with cloud infrastructure and DevOps practices such as AWS, Kubernetes, Elasticache, CI/CD, and monitoring alerting systems.
- Experience building large-scale gRPC services in Golang.
- Experience in a leadership role, including driving technical strategy, influencing architectural decisions, and mentoring senior engineers.
- Experience defining technical roadmaps and driving long-term strategic projects that span multiple engineering teams.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write effective technical specifications, provide constructive feedback, translate technical concepts into lay terms, and incorporate feedback.
- Ability to balance speed and quality in product delivery, demonstrating good judgment and a responsible, sustainable approach.
- Self-starter mentality, capable of thriving in a growing environment, proactively identifying needs, and taking initiative to address obstacles.
