Job Description

The role involves managing and improving the performance, reliability, and evolution of Alarm.com's real-time video streaming infrastructure, working closely with engineering teams to optimize streaming quality, protocols, cloud costs, and integrations in a technically deep product management capacity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and improve the performance, reliability, and evolution of the video streaming infrastructure.
  • Define streaming quality targets and track metrics such as connection success rates, load times, and cloud costs.
  • Analyze session logs, codecs, and benchmarking data to identify issues and prioritize improvements.
  • Own the product roadmap for streaming protocols, proxy infrastructure, adaptive bitrate streaming, and codec modernization.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams on cloud infrastructure, cost optimization, and migration initiatives.
  • Lead third-party video integrations and manage vendor relationships.
  • Coordinate firmware updates across device fleets to ensure safe and timely rollouts.
  • Manage dependencies, risks, and communication across multiple engineering teams for cross-team programs.

Requirements

  • Have real technical depth in video or media systems, including the ability to explain how a WebRTC session is established, what a TURN relay does, why transcoding is expensive, or how an SDP offer answer exchange works.
  • Experience working with streaming protocols, codecs, or media pipelines, whether as an engineer or as a product manager who has gone deep into technical details.
  • Possess data-driven decision-making skills, including building or owning performance dashboards and making product decisions based on p50 p95 latency data, error rates, and cost-per-stream.
  • Ability to read code and architecture diagrams, including understanding system design documents, following code reviews, or reading log files to troubleshoot issues.
  • Experience managing complex, cross-functional programs involving multiple teams, competing priorities, and shifting timelines, with the ability to keep projects moving without becoming a bottleneck.
  • Demonstrate clear communication skills, capable of explaining infrastructure complexity in plain language for leadership and translating business priorities into technical requirements for engineers.
  • Possess a minimum of 4 years of experience in relevant roles involving video, media systems, or related technical fields (implied by the need for real technical depth and experience managing complex programs).
