Job Description
A Principal Software Engineer at Alarm.com leads the research, development, and design of innovative software projects across multiple technology domains, mentors engineering teams, and collaborates with business stakeholders to drive product development and technical excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee research, development, and design of engineering projects
- Mentor and lead engineering teams across multiple levels
- Develop full-stack software for various platforms and technologies
- Provide technical leadership in system design and major software components
- Research, evaluate, and apply new technologies and methodologies
- Collaborate with product owners and business stakeholders to define strategies and roadmaps
- Ensure system architecture, functionality, and data flows meet project needs
- Supervise and oversee the technical aspects of multiple projects
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, a related field, or equivalent work experience
- 15 years of professional software development experience
- Experience leading and/or mentoring other engineers with a proven track record of developing people and solutions that are reusable by other engineers
- Proven expertise in object-oriented programming skills
- Ability to select new frameworks and architecture designs, educate other teams about them, and effect their buy-in
- Significant database design, performance, and development experience
- Superior analytical skills with a problem-solving attitude
- Ability to perform across teams
- Independent thinker and problem solver
- Understanding of UI tech stacks, needs, and limitations
- Expertise in object-oriented design and software lifecycles
- Experience working with physical systems and hardware devices (major plus)
