Job Description
A Senior Design Engineer responsible for designing modular units for synthetic fuels production, developing process simulations, and integrating mechanical, electrical, and control systems to optimize compact, safe, and efficient process equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and refine detailed designs for modular systems, including PFDs, P IDs, material selection, and equipment design
- Execute equipment design, calculations, and drawings reviews considering cost, performance, safety, and reliability
- Adapt larger plant equipment designs to smaller, modular, containerized units
- Integrate process, mechanical, electrical, instrument, and control systems into compact unit designs
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop modular designs from concept to fabrication
- Identify and resolve issues during fabrication and project execution
- Create and maintain design documentation, specifications, and testing protocols
- Partner with project managers to manage project timelines, budgets, and scope
Requirements
- BS Degree in Chemical, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field
- 10 years of system design and integration experience on chemical reactors, separation columns, heat exchangers, high pressure storage vessels, rotating equipment, etc. for smaller scale modular containerized units
- Experience in Industrial Gases, Chemical Manufacturing, Oil Gas, or Refining and Petrochemical Industry is highly desirable
- Conceptual process design and Process Flow Diagram development experience
- Experience with process simulators like Aspen Plus, Aspen HYSYS etc.
- P ID development and detailed design experience in prior jobs
- Experience in CAD software, such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and 3D models
- Knowledge of ASME codes, API standards and NBIC regulations, such as ASME Section VIII Div1 2 codes, API 650 620, API 579 and other industry codes and standards typically used in process equipment design
- Knowledge of US local regulations CFR, etc. is a plus
- Familiarity with process safety design for handling hazardous chemicals, and experienced with HAZOP methodologies
- Field experience in plant operations and or construction, ability to analyze and solve technical problems during the design and fabrication process
- Attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and precision in design and fabrication
- Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with various stakeholders, including designers, engineers, and operations staff
- Understanding of field level electrical, instrumentation, control and automation system
- Understanding of construction and fabrication feasibility, piping and equipment layout, hydraulics, stress analysis, welding, and structure design calculations
- Ability to create and refine detailed designs for modular systems, including PFDs, P IDs, material selection, and equipment design
- Ability to execute equipment design, calculations, and drawings reviews while considering cost, performance, safety, and reliability
- Ability to adapt larger plant equipment design to innovative, smaller modular and containerized units
- Ability to maximize compact unit design efficiency by integrating process, mechanical, electrical, instrument, and control systems without compromising safety, operability, and maintainability
- Partner with program project manager to manage timelines, budgets, and scope
- Ability to identify and resolve issues during fabrication and project execution phases
- Ability to create and maintain documentation, including design specifications, fabrication drawings, and testing protocols
- U.S. Person status required, either U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident
- Ability to obtain and maintain appropriate government authorization to access technology or information, including security clearance or export license, if required
