Job Description

The Learning Design Manager will develop and improve capacity-building programs for African social entrepreneurs, focusing on curriculum design, program development, and stakeholder collaboration to support early-stage social enterprises across Africa.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop curricula and learning experiences tailored to African social entrepreneurs at various stages of growth.
  • Create user personas, define learning outcomes, and utilize user research to shape program content and structure.
  • Design program sequences that include mentoring, funding, milestones, and events to enhance engagement and progression.
  • Ensure programs translate learning into tangible social, business, and systemic outcomes such as job creation and investment readiness.
  • Align content and delivery methods with the needs, contexts, and learning styles of target groups, grounded in learning design principles.
  • Collaborate with impact teams to define and track metrics measuring engagement, learning outcomes, and long-term impact.
  • Adapt existing content and curricula or create new materials, including e-learning modules, workshops, and practical tools.
  • Identify and manage subject matter experts and third-party providers to support program delivery.
  • Support program teams with learner troubleshooting and continuous improvement of the learner journey.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, including marketing, to ensure brand compliance of new content.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 8 years of professional experience, including at least 3 years of designing or delivering programs for African social entrepreneurs.
  • Experience with learning design, pedagogy, curriculum development, content production, and facilitation.
  • Experience setting up large-scale mentoring programs.
  • Experience in co-creating with third-party delivery partners, subject matter experts, and consultants.
  • Detail-oriented project management skills.
  • Strong writing and editing skills.
  • Critical thinking skills and the ability to work, problem-solve, and collaborate thoughtfully with colleagues and personalities at all levels both externally and internally, and across a variety of functions and geographies.
  • Experience working in East Africa and other regions in Africa (preferred).
  • Ability to work in a hybrid position located in Nairobi, Kenya, with an expectation of working from the office 3 days a week; remote work from other geographies is not an option.
  • Experience working with or understanding of business skills and the investment readiness process gained via experience with an accelerator or venture studio (desirable).
  • Familiarity with human-centered design and lean start-up approaches (desirable).
