Job Description
The Mechanical Engineer Early Career position involves designing, building, and testing innovative mechanical components and systems, utilizing CAD tools and various fabrication techniques. The role requires collaboration in a multidisciplinary team to develop prototypes and conduct evaluations in a laboratory setting.
Responsibilities
- •Rapid design, building and testing of prototypes and fixtures
- •Create computer-aided design (CAD) models and GD&T drawings for fabrication
- •Use engineering principles and calculations to guide design and analysis
- •Fabricate and assemble samples, fixtures, and prototypes
- •Select appropriate materials based on properties and compatibility
- •Conduct testing and evaluation of mechanical, thermal, chemical, or electrical properties in a laboratory setting
- •Collaborate with the machine shop to fabricate components
- •Source materials, services, and components from outside vendors for prototyping
- •Summarize findings for reports and presentations
Requirements
- •BA/BS or Master's degree in engineering or physical sciences.
- •1-3 years of experience in mechanical design and prototyping.
- •Proficiency in mechanical design with CAD tools, e.g., Solidworks.
- •Familiarity with analysis and testing of thermal, mechanical, or electrical components.
- •Ability to create computer-aided design (CAD) models, assemblies, and appropriately GD&T drawings for in-house fabrication or quote.
- •Experience in fabricating and assembling samples, fixtures, and prototypes.
- •Ability to select appropriate materials based on relevant properties and compatibility with the environment during process and deployment.
- •Experience working in a laboratory setting for testing and evaluation of mechanical, thermal, chemical, or electrical properties.
- •Ability to work with a machine shop to fabricate components.
- •Experience working with outside vendors and suppliers to source materials, services, and components for prototyping and low-rate initial production.
- •Ability to summarize findings for weekly report out, monthly presentations, and written reports.
- •Excellent communication skills, including both oral and written.
- •Ability to work well in a team environment and work in a matrix organization.
- •Ability to work independently within project budget and schedule.
- •Must be able to work for extended periods while standing or sitting at a computer workstation.
- •Must be familiar with common laboratory safety procedures.
- •Must be sufficiently mobile, have visual and hearing acuity, and manual dexterity to work within a laboratory environment.
- •Must be on-site in Malibu or Calabasas at least 4 days a week.
- •U.S. Citizenship is required.
