Job Description

The Tool Room Technician Proto-Type Machinist is responsible for developing machining methods and processes to repair turbine engine components, while also assisting in tooling development. This role involves collaboration with skilled machinists and engineers in a modern facility, focusing on continuous improvement and skill enhancement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, design, and repair tooling and fixtures from concept to final product.
  • Develop machining methods and processes to repair turbine engine components to specifications.
  • Perform machining processes on high alloy materials for turbine engine parts.
  • Troubleshoot existing tooling and fixtures based on conceptual ideas and drawings.
  • Participate in problem-solving and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Communicate regularly with engineers and other machinists to enhance skills and processes.
  • Participate in repair development projects for new and existing programs.
  • Follow written and verbal work instructions and use shop math and trigonometry.
  • Identify and correct machining problems related to tools and tool holders.
  • Accurately record findings on work instructions and documentation.
  • Contribute to the training process for various levels of machinist technicians.
  • Participate in production runs and assist in troubleshooting or developing tooling.

Requirements

  • Three to five years Tool Room experience or similar as a machinist with knowledge or familiarity in one, all, or a combination of Machining skill Set Level 2, to include the set up and operation of Manual lathe, CNC Mill, Bridgeport, Surface grinder.
  • Two plus years of experience in creative problem solving on Machine setups, Tooling, Fixturing.
  • Two plus years experience in the understanding of GD&T and reading and the interpretation of shop drawings and technical diagrams.
  • Experience in high strength alloy metal.
  • Technical high school diploma, machinist trade school or equivalent work experience.
  • Set-up experience with tooling and fixtures with the ability to follow instructions per technical drawings or work instructions.
  • Familiar with shop math principles and basic trigonometry.
  • Read, write, speak, understand English, and be able to communicate with other employees.
  • This position has pre-employment testing requirements that may require fitness for duty testing and a vision exam.
  • Follow general shop safety procedures including the occasional use of safety glasses, safety toe shoes, and hearing protection.
  • Stand and or sit for portions of the shift. Move parts 50 pounds using hoists, slings, carts, or other handling methods. Move less heavy parts 50 pounds with or without hoists, slings, or carts.
