Job Description
The Scanning Electron Microscopist will specialize in the characterization of battery materials, utilizing advanced techniques to analyze microstructure and elemental composition, support R&D and production efforts, and optimize manufacturing processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out and optimize sample preparation for optical and electron microscopy
- Characterize samples using optical and electron microscopy
- Measure surface roughness and topography with profilometers
- Ensure proper documentation of technical data and laboratory procedures
- Manage and prioritize laboratory activities for efficiency
- Synthesize data and report findings to the team
- Maintain lab equipment and ensure lab cleanliness and safety
- Troubleshoot instruments and expand instrument capabilities
- Oversee sample processes and improve methodologies
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in materials science, metallurgy, mechanical engineering, or comparable degree and experience.
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in a materials characterization lab with demonstrated expertise in scanning electron microscopy.
- Proficiency in scanning electron microscope alignment and routine maintenance, including associated systems EDS and EBSD.
- Ability to analyze data and effectively communicate results.
- Strong ability to follow detailed technical instructions and operating procedures.
- Experience troubleshooting experiments.
- Comfortable working with chemicals and vacuum equipment in a laboratory environment.
- Capable and willing to perform all the various manual tasks involved with lab work, such as safely moving heavy objects and handling incoming materials.
- Must be able to work hands-on in the lab, including standing and operating equipment at a lab bench.
- Able to work in a laboratory environment for extended periods.
- Able to lift 30 lbs.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects in parallel.
- Detail-oriented, excels at performing repetitive tasks where both high degrees of accuracy and precision are required.
