Job Description
The Mechanical Engineering Lead at Redwood Materials will design and develop high-power electromechanical products, focusing on mechanical components and systems while collaborating with cross-functional teams. This role involves both hands-on engineering and leadership responsibilities as the team scales for high-volume manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and execute the mechanical design and development of a high-volume, high-power energy conversion product from concept to deployment.
- Act as the primary mechanical engineering expert, driving innovation and solving technical challenges.
- Perform mechanical analysis (CFD, FEA, thermal, etc.) to validate designs and ensure performance.
- Collaborate with electrical and systems engineers for seamless integration of mechanical systems.
- Select materials and components, ensuring cost-effective, high-quality solutions.
- Manage project goals and timelines as a hands-on engineering manager.
- Recruit, mentor, and manage a high-performance mechanical engineering team.
Requirements
- BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- 7 years of experience in mechanical engineering, with a strong focus in power conversion or energy storage products, ideally for mass production.
- Proven track record as a senior mechanical engineer, with hands-on design, prototyping, and launch experience in medium-to-high volume production of 10,000 units per year or higher.
- Proficiency in CAD tools such as SolidWorks and analysis tools including CFD and FEA.
- An understanding of the relationship between high voltage electronics and the mechanical systems that support and surround them, including insulation systems and thermal systems.
