Job Description
The Staff Mechanical Engineer for Power Electronics at Redwood Materials will be responsible for the mechanical design of advanced power converters, focusing on thermal interfaces, electrical insulators, and cooling systems, while collaborating with electrical engineers to ensure manufacturability and performance in high-voltage applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Design detailed mechanical components for power converters
- Collaborate with electrical engineers on thermal interfaces and cooling systems
- Develop cost-effective and manufacturable designs for high-voltage assemblies
- Articulate failure mechanisms related to electrical insulation
- Design thermally conductive heat transfer systems
- Partner with electrical engineering colleagues to optimize product performance
Requirements
- BS, MS, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, with a focus in power electronics.
- 7 years of experience in electrical engineering, with a strong focus in power conversion or energy storage products, ideally for mass production.
- Experience in high-voltage design up to 2000VDC and 480VAC.
- Proven track record as an electrical engineer, with hands-on design, prototyping, and launch experience in medium-to-high volume production of 10,000 units per year or higher.
- Able to perform detailed schematic capture in Altium or related CAD software.
- Able to supervise and occasionally perform detailed layout of high-power electronics PCBs in Altium or related CAD software.
