Key Responsibilities
Negotiate and administer long-term power purchase agreements and associated legal documents between Xcel Energy and independent power producers (IPPs), to meet customer needs, minimize cost, and optimize the power supply portfolio.
Under the guidance of the Power Purchase (PP) leadership, support the negotiation of long-term power purchase agreements and development of new model contracts. Work with legal counsel to independently negotiate associated documents including, but not limited to, amendments, financing documents, and metering & billing agreements. Work closely with legal counsel and PP leadership to maximize risk mitigation and supplier performance.
Manage and monitor long-term contract terms and conditions to ensure counterparty compliance. Provide performance governance for facilities in the IPP portfolio across the operating companies.
Demonstrates effective contract management and ensures effective collaboration of multi-disciplinary teams needed to coordinate the activities between the company and power project developers to ensure facilities come on-line as planned and provide the service contracted for.
Maintain frequent contact and strong internal business relationships across the Company. Develop a solid professional working relationship with the Company's IPPs. Identify and develop effective solutions to contract issues - identify ways to improve purchase value and optionality. Resolve basic party disputes.
Initiate and receive timely approval of contracts and related documents through internal approval processes, including contract development, approval, and delegation committees and executive approval. Support Regulatory filings and internal/external data requests by thoroughly understanding and providing contract and transaction details as needed and drafting testimony and answering intervener interrogatories for management review.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, economics, finance, or similar, or otherwise equivalent experience.
Minimum 2 years experience in energy industry including significant experience working on contract or asset management and other detailed technical power generation matters, working on legislative and/or regulatory issues related to power procurement, and negotiating and administering contracts.
Strong interpersonal, analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Previous experience in system operations, regulatory affairs, contract law or system planning is a plus.
