Job Description
A summer internship position within Toyota Research Institute's robotics team focused on developing and integrating advanced mobile manipulation systems using machine learning, enabling robots to perform complex tasks, navigate among people, and learn adaptively in real-world environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and integrate solutions enabling robots to perform complex, human-level mobile manipulation tasks
- Enable robots to navigate with and among people
- Design systems that learn and adapt over time in real-world environments
- Leverage machine learning to combine perception, prediction, and action for robust robot behaviors
- Bootstrap robot development from simulation and large data sets
- Validate and deploy robotic systems in real-world scenarios
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in or recently completed a degree program in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Experience or coursework in developing and integrating robotic systems capable of performing complex, human-level mobile manipulation tasks.
- Knowledge of machine learning techniques, especially as they relate to perception, prediction, and action in robotics.
- Experience with developing, deploying, and validating robotic systems in real-world environments.
- Ability to leverage simulation and large datasets to bootstrap robot learning and behavior adaptation.
- Strong understanding of mobile manipulation, perception, and reactive robot behaviors.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-moving environment that involves high-risk innovation and learning from failures.
- Ability to develop and evaluate high-quality, robust robotic systems using rigorous processes.
- Availability to participate in a 12-week summer internship in Summer 2026, with a hybrid in-office work arrangement.
- Willingness to include links to relevant open-source contributions or technical project write-ups with the application.
