Job Description
This internship offers civil engineering students the opportunity to work on transportation rail projects, gaining hands-on experience in site planning, design, calculations, and construction administration while collaborating with engineers and technicians in a structured summer program.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in developing preliminary and final designs using AutoCAD and Civil 3D
- Perform calculations for project dimensions, elevations, earthwork, utilities, and track quantities
- Support site assessments and surveys
- Contribute to construction administration by providing feedback on project status and challenges
- Engage in various project stages from conception through construction
Requirements
- Candidates must be at least 21 years of age as of May 01, 2026, due to responsibilities that may require the operation of a motorized vehicle to conduct business on behalf of TKDA.
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Candidates must be pursuing an undergraduate bachelor's degree in civil engineering.
- Candidates must have a strong interest in transportation, specifically within the railroad and/or mass transit sector.
- Candidates must be available to work 40 hours per week with occasional overtime throughout the summer of 2025 from mid-May through mid-August.
- Candidates must be able to complete and pass any background, security, and drug tests required by TKDA, clients, and relevant state and federal agencies.
- Candidates must be able to perform the responsibilities associated with the internship, including contributing to preliminary and final designs using AutoCAD and Civil 3D, performing calculations for project dimensions and elevations, earthwork, utilities, and track quantities, assisting with preliminary site assessments and surveys, and providing feedback on construction status and challenges.
- Candidates must be able to work primarily from the TKDA office in Seattle, WA or an assigned project site, with the flexibility for hybrid work arrangements if applicable.
- Candidates must complete a standard pre-employment background screening, including Social Security verification, educational verification, review of criminal convictions, and driving history.
