Job Description

The R&D Engineer Scientist at Swift Solar will develop and optimize thin film deposition processes and materials for high-efficiency, stable perovskite tandem solar cells, contributing to scalable manufacturing solutions and advancing solar technology innovation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize processes, materials, and metrology techniques for thin film layers in solar cells.
  • Identify shortcomings in existing device stacks and develop strategies to improve performance and stability.
  • Perform systematic experiments to develop scalable deposition methods and materials.
  • Use advanced metrology to quantify material properties and ensure reproducibility.
  • Maintain and operate critical deposition and characterization equipment, providing training as needed.
  • Develop unit process specifications for materials and processes suitable for high-volume manufacturing.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to source and qualify materials for manufacturing.
  • Design and develop new materials to enhance solar cell performance, stability, and scalability.

Requirements

  • A Ph.D. in chemistry, materials research, physics or related fields, or a Master's degree plus at least two years of directly relevant R D experience
  • At least 2 years of experience in thin-film deposition and characterization techniques such as XRD, XRF, PL, JV, and advanced methods
  • Expert knowledge of metal halide perovskite materials and their characterization
  • Experience in developing and optimizing scalable deposition materials and processes for thin film layers in solar cells
  • Ability to perform systematic experiments to develop and optimize deposition materials and processes
  • Experience in developing and using advanced metrology techniques to quantify materials properties
  • Ownership of continued maintenance, upkeep, and training of critical deposition and characterization processes
  • Experience in developing unit process specifications for thin film materials and processes to reach high reproducibility
  • Experience in sourcing and qualifying materials for manufacturing, including working with chemical suppliers
  • Ability to design new materials to achieve higher performance, stability, or scalability
  • Ability to identify shortcomings within the existing device stack and develop strategies to overcome these limitations
  • Ability to work independently on open-ended R D projects that might go beyond immediate area of expertise
  • Proactive, hard-working, and motivated to make an impact on climate change
