A Mechanical Design Engineer at Swift Solar is responsible for designing, procuring, and installing equipment for thin-film deposition and processing of perovskite photovoltaics, contributing to process improvement and manufacturing scale-up in a cutting-edge solar technology startup.
Key Responsibilities
Design, procure, and install parts and assemblies for thin-film deposition and processing equipment.
Create components for vacuum chambers and process equipment to improve process performance and support manufacturing scale-up.
Perform thermal and mechanical analysis of assemblies.
Collaborate with technicians to install and troubleshoot assemblies.
Develop and execute test plans to optimize electro-mechanical device performance.
Design mechanical parts based on process engineer requirements and source high-quality parts from suppliers.
Contribute to developing engineering practices and documentation standards.
Requirements
A B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering or related discipline.
Experience using 3D CAD software to design a variety of parts made by machining, 3D printing, sheet metal processes, and or welding, with SolidWorks preferred.
Experience working with suppliers to get consistent quality parts.
Experience testing and troubleshooting systems that you and the team have designed.
Desire to learn standards and best practices to help improve Swift’s engineering processes.
Ability to design, procure, and install parts and assemblies for thin-film deposition and processing equipment.
Ability to perform thermal and mechanical analysis of assemblies.
Ability to develop and execute test plans and optimize performance of electro-mechanical devices designed in house.
Experience designing components for vacuum chambers and other process equipment.
Experience making drawings to send to suppliers to source high-quality parts quickly and cost-effectively.
Ability to interact with process engineers and technologists to address their challenges by designing and procuring mechanical parts.
Experience adapting commercial equipment to perovskite cells production processes.
Willingness to contribute to developing Swift’s engineering practices and documentation standards.
