Job Description
The Process Safety Engineer II at Solid Power will focus on ensuring process safety for powder production processes and supporting capital projects in the development of next-generation solid-state batteries. This role involves evaluating safety programs, conducting hazard analyses, and implementing safety solutions to maintain a safe manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage Process Safety Management (PSM) and Health and Safety regulatory compliance.
- Support development of EHS Management systems and procedures.
- Interface with EHS and the powders group to maintain a safety culture.
- Develop and execute safety solutions in powder manufacturing.
- Conduct Process Hazard Analyses (PHA) including WhatIf, HazOp, HazID, and FMEA.
- Identify and implement safety layers in production processes.
- Assist with Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) for various tasks.
- Review and update Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and related documents.
- Conduct site inspections and audits to identify safety issues.
- Lead incident investigations and manage corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with safety and health standards and regulatory changes.
- Develop and deliver EHS training programs for engineers and operators.
- Assist in emergency response and evacuation planning.
- Prepare and maintain records and reports related to safety activities.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in safety engineering, chemical engineering, Industrial Engineering, Environmental Health and Safety, or a related field
- Relevant certifications e.g., CSP, CIH are a plus
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in safety engineering or a related field
- In-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations, safety management systems, international fire code, electrical area classification, combustible dust management, and EPA requirements
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in using safety management software and tools
- Hands-on experience with industrial processes and associated safety concerns
- Experience performing safety analyses including Hazard Analysis, FMEA, Fault Tree Analysis, and Human Error Assessments
- Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and strengthen a culture of inclusion
- Willingness to initiate and execute multiple tasks in a fast-paced start-up environment
- Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as necessary
