Job Description
The Process Engineer will design, optimize, and troubleshoot chemical processes and equipment in a high-growth battery materials manufacturing environment, ensuring safety, efficiency, and continuous improvement through data analysis and project management.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and optimize chemical processes to improve efficiency, safety, and product quality
- Provide engineering expertise for rotating equipment performance, troubleshooting, and maintenance
- Monitor and analyze process data to identify trends and implement corrective actions
- Investigate and resolve operational issues and equipment malfunctions
- Conduct Process Hazard Analyses and ensure safety and environmental compliance
- Lead and manage process improvement and technology implementation projects
- Collaborate on the design and deployment of process automation and control systems
Requirements
- Highly analytical and experienced Process Engineer with a strong background in chemical plant operations including rotating equipment.
- Adept at using data and process simulation to monitor, optimize, and support complex chemical processes.
- Possess exceptional troubleshooting skills to maintain continuous, safe, and efficient production.
- Ability to lead technical projects in a dynamic, high-growth manufacturing setting.
- Experience in process design optimization, including designing new chemical processes and continuously optimizing existing unit operations to enhance efficiency, safety, product quality, and material yield.
- Provide process engineering expertise for rotating equipment such as pumps and compressors, including monitoring performance, troubleshooting failures, and collaborating with Maintenance Reliability teams to implement upgrades and preventative maintenance strategies.
- Oversee ongoing operations by collecting and analyzing high-volume process data (e.g., using Seeq) to identify trends, diagnose potential issues, and implement data-driven corrective and preventative actions.
- Lead investigation and resolution of complex operational problems, process deviations, and equipment malfunctions to ensure continuous, uninterrupted production targets are met.
- Conduct thorough Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) and ensure all processes and equipment strictly adhere to safety standards and environmental regulations.
- Lead and manage engineering projects focused on process improvement or new technology implementation, coordinating with cross-functional teams, contractors, and vendors to deliver projects safely, on schedule, and within budget.
- Collaborate with Engineering and Automation teams on the design, configuration, and implementation of new process control systems (DCS, PLC) and equipment to advance process automation and data acquisition capabilities.
- Possess a strong foundational understanding of chemical engineering principles, unit operations (e.g., reactors, heat exchangers, material handling), and expertise in chemical plant equipment, particularly rotating equipment.
- Demonstrated experience in a chemical plant or high-volume manufacturing environment working directly with process equipment and control systems.
- Proficiency in Google and Microsoft applications, along with experience using process control systems (DCS, PLC) and data analysis tools.
- Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and data analysis skills to interpret complex data, conduct process capability studies, and make informed, timely decisions.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for reporting findings, writing procedures, and collaborating effectively with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams.
- Proven ability to plan, prioritize, manage resources, and execute technical projects to completion.
- Pass a respirator fit test and be able to wear respiratory protection on a daily basis.
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment including lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, and steel toe safety shoes.
- Ability to move items weighing up to 50 lbs with the assistance of lift equipment and carts.
- Ability to move long distances such as from building to building and remain stationary for extended periods.
- Reach low shelves or items on the floor and enter spaces narrower than 3 feet.
- Climb stairs or over containment walls.
- Perform precise and repetitive handling of a range of material quantities.
- Operate a computer and other office equipment such as a laptop, copier, or printer in a fixed location.
Benefits & Perks
Compensation/salary range: $121,000 to $152,000 (base pay, dependent on experience, education, and skills)
