Job Description
The Engineering Technician will work on the Equipment Design Development team, focusing on building, installing, and retrofitting process equipment to enhance the safety and reliability of operations at Sila, a battery materials company. The role involves hands-on tasks including mechanical, electrical, and plumbing work, as well as supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and assemble new R&D and production tools.
- Follow procedures for safe handling of hazardous gases.
- Support commissioning and decommissioning of process equipment.
- Respond to trouble calls for process tools and safety issues.
- Train on SILA equipment and request additional training as needed.
- Propose and implement improvements to systems and tools.
- Conduct regular inspections and analyses of electrical equipment.
- Perform preventive maintenance on various machinery.
Requirements
- Hands-on experience and familiarity with hand tools.
- Certification in industrial machine repair or interest in obtaining certification.
- Ability to build new equipment and fabricate and assemble new R&D and production tools, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and support process gas supply systems.
- Experience with hazardous gas cylinder changes, including following detailed procedures for safe connection and disconnection of hazardous, toxic, flammable, and/or pyrophoric gases.
- Experience in commissioning and decommissioning mechanical, electrical, and controls on process equipment and supporting equipment.
- Ability to respond to trouble calls related to process tools, facilities, line 1 equipment, battery equipment, and safety issues.
- A.S. degree or equivalent technical or vocational education.
- Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, vacuum equipment, process piping, and process gas supply systems.
- Ability to work carefully with delicate parts and large tools.
- Consistent and reliable task completion.
- Knowledge of testing tools such as DMV, helium leak detector, and hydro tester.
- Ability to communicate consistently and clearly across multiple teams and shifts.
- Ability to perform preventive maintenance on a variety of types of machinery.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs with the assistance of lift equipment and carts.
- Ability to walk long distances and stand for extended periods of time.
- Ability to reach low shelves or items on the floor.
- Ability to pass a respirator fit test and wear respiratory protection when required.
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment including, but not limited to, a lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, and safety shoes.
- Willingness to travel up to 30%.
Benefits & Perks
Compensation/salary range: $39/hr to $52/hr
Work schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm
