Job Description
The Supervisor of Renewable Project Accounting oversees the accurate financial management and reporting of SB Energy's utility-scale renewable solar and storage projects, ensuring compliance with US GAAP and internal controls, while leading a team of accountants and collaborating with various stakeholders to support the company's energy infrastructure initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and execute the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes for renewable energy projects.
- Record and review financial transactions, including journal entries and account reconciliations, in accordance with US GAAP.
- Oversee intercompany billings and ensure accurate reflection of business transactions in the ledgers.
- Collaborate with project managers and internal teams to ensure accurate and timely financial data and reporting.
- Prepare consolidated financial statements and support documentation for internal and external reporting.
- Maintain lease accounting data in compliance with ASC842 and ensure proper documentation and approval of reports.
- Perform variance analysis and financial research to resolve technical accounting issues.
- Coordinate with external auditors during annual audits and ensure compliance with SOX and internal controls.
- Identify process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy in accounting workflows.
- Supervise and review the work of junior and senior accountants, providing guidance and oversight.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum of 5 years in general accounting.
- Audit experience is required.
- Supervisory experience of 1-3 years.
- ERP system experience is required, with a preference for NetSuite.
- Proficiency with Excel, including pivot tables and formulas, and proficiency with other Microsoft Office products.
- Experience working in project accounting within engineering and construction, or Energy industry is preferred.
- Familiarity with financial reporting for renewable power plants such as Photo Voltaic, Battery Energy Storage System, Data Center, and the nuances of renewable energy tax incentives.
- Experience with US GAAP, including technical accounting issues and lease accounting (ASC842).
- Experience with SOX compliance is preferred.
- Experience working with external auditors on annual audits based on GAAP.
- Ability to develop strong relationships with project managers to ensure accurate reflection of business transactions in the ledgers, timely collections, and development of business knowledge.
- Ability to perform analytical functions necessary to achieve an accurate and timely general ledger month-end close.
- Ability to research and document technical accounting issues in accordance with US GAAP.
- Ability to complete the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process within clearly-defined time frames.
- Ability to account for intercompany billings between the operating parent entities and underlying projects.
- Ability to communicate effectively with various levels of management and clients, both verbally and in writing.
- Must be highly detail-oriented and results-focused, with strong organizing, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills.
- Strong work ethic, professionalism, and ability to deal sensitively with confidential material.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Willingness and ability to travel domestically up to 5 times per year, with locations including San Francisco Bay Area, San Diego, CA, Washington D.C., Phoenix, AZ, Dallas, and Houston, TX, or work remotely.
