Job Description
The Senior Manager, Transmission Analytics, will provide expert-level technical and market analysis related to power transmission, congestion, and energy markets to support renewable energy projects and grid integration efforts, primarily using modeling software and data analysis tools.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct SCED analysis and develop models for congestion and curtailment assessments.
- Maintain and develop databases, assumptions files, and tools for congestion and transmission analysis.
- Perform historical and forward-looking congestion analyses for operating and development assets.
- Research market trends, transmission expansion plans, and regulatory changes impacting congestion and curtailment risks.
- Create and utilize analytical tools to evaluate transmission and market conditions.
- Present findings on congestion, energy markets, and transmission issues to senior management.
Requirements
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in electrical engineering, Data Science, Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, or related quantitative discipline is strongly preferred.
- A minimum of 7 years experience in economic modeling or data analyses is required.
- Strong understanding of power systems and Locational Marginal Pricing (LMP) fundamentals is required.
- Demonstrated competency in other modeling, statistical analysis, and/or optimization software is highly desired.
- Experience in detailed economic modeling of transmission networks, thermal and renewable generators using PROMOD, DAYZER, or Plexos is strongly preferred.
- Basic knowledge and experience running power flows either in PSS E, TARA, PSLF, or PowerWorld is required.
- Working knowledge of wholesale electricity markets such as CAISO, ERCOT, or MISO is highly desired.
- Proven problem solving and negotiation skills are required.
- Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment in applying established transmission techniques, procedures, or standards is required.
- Basic knowledge of Python and SQL is desired.
- Demonstrated proficiency with Excel and MS Office Suite is required.
- Expertise in power system analysis software packages PSS E, PSLF, PowerWorld Simulator is strongly preferred.
- Ability to procure and utilize various data sources for analysis, presentations, or production simulation modeling and economic analysis is required.
- Advanced communication skills to ensure clear communication internally and externally are required.
- Strong relationship development skills and the ability to work successfully with peers and other teams across the company are required.
- Ability to function effectively in a team environment and demonstrate motivation to succeed in a fast-paced environment is required.
- Ability and poise to interact comfortably with senior levels of management is required.
- Willingness to travel domestically up to 10 times per year is required.
