Job Description
A Site Reliability Engineer at Samsara is responsible for designing, maintaining, and securing highly available cloud infrastructure, ensuring system stability, security, and reliability to support IoT-based physical operations across various industries.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, maintain, and ensure the security, availability, and resilience of cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
- Develop and manage standardized, secure base components such as images and container images for fault-tolerant provisioning.
- Implement system stability and reliability best practices within development and deployment pipelines.
- Participate in on-call rotations to investigate outages, perform root cause analysis, and ensure service availability.
- Define Service Level Indicators (SLIs) and Service Level Objectives (SLOs), and develop observability tools to monitor and improve service reliability.
- Develop and maintain monitoring dashboards, metrics pipelines, and alerting configurations.
- Lead the technical delivery of engineering projects, including designing solutions, evaluating options, and making trade-offs.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a DevOps Engineer, Security Engineer, Software Engineer, or Site Reliability Engineer.
- At least 5 years of hands-on experience working with Unix or Linux operating systems.
- At least 3 years of hands-on experience in public cloud networking engineering.
- At least 3 years of experience with Identity Access Management.
- Strong ability to automate through scripting languages such as Python, Bash, Go, or similar.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or Puppet.
- Experience in implementing and managing containerized applications using Docker and orchestration platforms like Kubernetes, with security considerations in mind.
- Experience with AWS services such as EC2, EKS, ECS, ECR, and IAM.
- Understanding of security weaknesses, exploits, attacks, and mitigations.
- Ability to design and maintain highly available, resilient, and secure infrastructure across public cloud platforms.
- Ownership of infrastructure provisioning using Infrastructure as Code to establish reliable developer self-service pathways.
- Development and maintenance of standardized, secure, and reliable base components like golden images, AMIs, container images for fault-tolerant provisioning.
- Participation in a 24/7 on-call rotation, investigating outages, and contributing to root cause analysis post-mortems.
- Definition of Service Level Indicators (SLIs) and Service Level Objectives (SLOs), and building observability tooling to measure and improve service reliability.
- Development and maintenance of monitoring dashboards, metrics pipelines, and alerting configurations.
- Ownership and leadership in the technical delivery of engineering projects, ensuring they meet timelines, scope, and quality standards.
- Ability to design, scope, evaluate options, and make trade-off decisions to provide accurate effort and complexity estimates.
- Focus on customer success, building for the long term, adopting a growth mindset, being inclusive, and winning as a team, as cultural principles to be embedded.
- Excellent communication skills and a desire to collaborate across teams.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot network and security-related issues.
- Experience with performance and cost optimization in cloud infrastructure.
- Familiarity with data privacy regulations and compliance.
