Job Description
The Senior Staff Software Engineer at Samsara's Fleet Safety team leads the technical architecture and development of AI-driven safety solutions for fleet management, focusing on real-time driver feedback, video-based coaching, and scalable distributed systems to improve driver safety and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and lead the technical strategy and architecture for Fleet Safety products, including video, telematics, and AI/ML workflows.
- Design and develop scalable, reliable systems for real-time AI, computer vision, and data processing.
- Translate research into customer-facing features that enhance detection, classification, and driver coaching workflows.
- Scale distributed systems, streaming pipelines, storage, and indexing for performance, security, and cost efficiency.
- Establish engineering standards, guide trade-offs, and improve developer productivity across teams.
- Mentor and coach engineers, promote best practices, and foster a culture of ownership and inclusion.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science Engineering or a related field.
- 12 years of experience as a software engineer building customer-facing applications.
- At least 8 years of experience in an architect or leadership role.
- 6 years of experience leading cross-organization projects.
- Entrepreneurial experience with a track record of success for early-stage products.
- Stellar programming coding fundamentals.
- Expertise in working on large-scale enterprise software applications.
- Experience in applying Machine Learning or Artificial Intelligence to real-world applications.
- Technical mastery in Go, Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, C, C++, or other similar languages.
