Job Description
A Senior Product Design Mechanical Engineer responsible for industrial design, architecture, and leading design efforts for hardware products in industrial environments, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure product usability, reliability, and manufacturability.
Key Responsibilities
- Guide the architecture of multiple products through industrial design studies, considering environment, installation, usability, and aesthetics.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Product Management, EE, FW, EPM, and Hardware leadership to make design tradeoffs and decisions.
- Research industry trends, fabrication techniques, vendors, and quality assurance to inform product design.
- Support the development process from prototyping to field validation, ensuring performance, cost, and schedule goals are met.
- Evaluate system feature tradeoffs and create system specifications for development.
- Lead reliability testing and assess product field performance.
- Mentor other engineers in design and architecture practices.
- Ship successful hardware products by overseeing design, development, and validation activities.
Requirements
- Minimum of 10 years of experience shipping high-volume hardware programs at scale with ODM and JDM partners overseas.
- Systems design expertise includes thermals, rugged enclosures, antennas, and batteries.
- Proven record navigating tradeoffs between design, manufacturability, schedule, and cost.
- Experience working on a wide variety of systems for different use cases and environments including automotive, indoor, and outdoor industrial areas.
- BS or MS degree in mechanical engineering.
- Ability to travel up to 20% when necessary.
- Experience with design for telematics or Vehicle environments (preferred).
- High-volume product experience (preferred).
- Camera module experience (preferred).
