Job Description
The Senior Product Design Engineer II at Samsara is responsible for designing, developing, and bringing to market industrial hardware products, ensuring they meet customer needs, quality standards, and manufacturing requirements through collaboration across multiple teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and ship hardware products from concept to mass production
- Evaluate system features and define product specifications in collaboration with cross-functional teams
- Drive development through all phases including feasibility, prototyping, detailed design, validation, and manufacturing
- Validate products through testing, customer feedback, and quality analysis
- Own the industrial design, packaging, and installation experience of hardware products
- Leverage manufacturing partners to meet performance, cost, and schedule goals
- Research industry trends and incorporate innovations into product development
Requirements
- Minimum of 7 years of experience shipping hardware programs at scale in partnership with partners overseas.
- Proven record navigating tradeoffs between design, manufacturability, schedule, and cost in a cross-functional environment.
- Experience developing and launching electromechanical components or products in mass production.
- Demonstrated experience designing for automotive, outdoor, industrial, or consumer products.
- Proficiency in plastic metal part design, CAD modeling, and drafting, preferably using NX.
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
- Ability to travel up to 10 domestic and international when necessary.
- Hybrid work requirement of being onsite Tuesday through Thursday at the San Francisco headquarters.
