Job Description
The Senior Hardware Systems Engineer at Samsara is responsible for designing and developing high-volume hardware products, including component selection, system architecture, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure successful product deployment in various industrial and automotive environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive the architecture and design of hardware products based on feasibility, design, and cost studies.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Product Management, Firmware, Hardware, and Supply Chain to make tradeoffs and design decisions.
- Work directly with customers and internal teams to develop products that meet performance and reliability requirements.
- Manage the development process from prototyping through field validation, ensuring performance, cost, and schedule goals are met.
- Coordinate with ODM and JDM partners to ship high-volume hardware products.
- Conduct research on the latest semiconductor and hardware technologies to inform design choices.
- Evaluate system feature tradeoffs and create detailed system specifications for development.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of experience shipping high volume hardware programs with ODM and JDM partners.
- Systems design expertise including chipset SoC selection, power optimization, antennas RF, batteries, sensors, and PCB design.
- Proven record navigating tradeoffs between design, manufacturability, schedule, and cost.
- Experience working on a wide variety of systems for different use cases including automotive, indoor and outdoor industrial areas leveraging low power, wireless LTE, BLE, WiFi, GPS, embedded AI ML, imaging, sensors, etc.
- Proven record of system bring-up debug including desense, validation, power, etc.
- BS or MS degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical field.
- Ability to travel up to 25% when necessary.
- Strong ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and drive independent work.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Experience with certifications and testing involved with industrial and automotive settings such as ISO16750, AECQ100, etc.
- Schematic and layout design experience in Altium and Cadence Allegro.
- Systems design expertise with cameras and in extreme environmental conditions.
- Experience with design for supply, design for reliability testing, and design for manufacture.
