Job Description

The Senior Data Scientist will analyze and translate complex data into strategic insights to support operational and leadership decision-making, develop predictive models, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve Samsara's IoT-based solutions and customer outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Translate data into strategic insights through reports, dashboards, and presentations to support decision-making.
  • Build analytical models to identify patterns, anomalies, and root causes in data.
  • Design and execute A/B tests and experiments to evaluate AI solutions.
  • Collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders to understand data structures and business priorities.
  • Leverage SQL, Python, and R to manipulate and analyze data.
  • Develop and scale statistical and analytical models, including automating pipelines.
  • Communicate data trends and insights effectively to technical and leadership teams.

Requirements

  • An advanced degree in Statistics or other quantitative field such as Applied Math, Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a PhD in Statistics or other quantitative field.
  • At least 8 years of experience in a data-related role relevant to data science, data analysis, business analytics, or business intelligence.
  • Proficiency in data manipulation and processing using SQL, Python, and/or R.
  • Experience building statistical and other analytical models, preferably in Python or R.
  • Ability to communicate trends and learnings via data visualizations including Tableau.
  • Ability to effectively share project statuses and take ownership of tasks while handling competing priorities.
  • Ability to distill informal or ambiguous customer and business requirements into clear problem definitions.
  • Proven ability to communicate verbally and in writing to technical peers and leadership teams with various levels of technical knowledge.
  • Experience working with large datasets using distributed computing technologies such as Spark or Hive.
  • Ability to build analytical models, identify patterns, anomalies, and root causes, and design and run A/B and other experiments and tests to evaluate AI solutions.
  • Ability to translate data into strategic insights via memos, presentations, dashboards, etc., to support decision-making for operational and leadership teams.
  • Ability to build relationships with technical and non-technical stakeholders to understand data structures and business priorities.
  • Ability to stay connected to industry and academic research and adopt novel technology that suits Samsara’s needs.
  • Ability to scale models into automated pipelines.
  • Strong track record of cross-functional partnership and successful mentoring and development of team members.
  • Physical and technical ability to work with large datasets and distributed computing environments.
