Job Description

An experienced Reliability Test Engineer responsible for designing and executing thermal and heat transfer system tests, developing test plans, analyzing data, and ensuring product reliability to support industrial heat applications and decarbonization efforts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and commission custom test rigs for thermal and heat transfer systems.
  • Develop and execute test plans to validate component and system performance, reliability, and functionality.
  • Define test parameters and methodologies, including accelerated life testing (ALT), highly accelerated life testing (HALT), and highly accelerated stress screening (HASS).
  • Conduct stress, thermal, fatigue, and failure testing according to lifetime requirements.
  • Analyze testing data to generate reliability metrics and lifetime assessments.
  • Create wiring diagrams, instrumentation lists, and automate testing processes using LabView, Python, or similar tools.
  • Integrate and calibrate sensors and process measurement devices for accurate thermal system testing.
  • Assist in building mechanical, electrical, and thermal test setups and fixtures.
  • Ensure safety protocols and industry standards are followed throughout testing activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Thermal Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in operating test equipment and testing systems and components.
  • Experience with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and test automation systems.
  • Experience with different sensor types and data acquisition systems.
  • Familiarity with medium voltage and high voltage wiring and customized equipment.
  • Proficiency in standard laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, power meters, thermocouples, etc.
  • Knowledge of good laboratory practices (GLP) involving electromechanical and high-temperature applications.
  • Experience with reliability testing methods including HALT (Highly Accelerated Life Testing), ALT (Accelerated Life Testing), and HASS (Highly Accelerated Stress Screening).
  • Ability to develop and implement test plans for validating component or assembly functionality, performance, and reliability.
  • Ability to define test parameters and methodologies including accelerated life testing, highly accelerated life testing, and highly accelerated stress screening.
  • Experience with reliability modeling and statistical techniques such as Weibull analysis and MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures) calculations to assess product performance over time.
  • Experience in assisting with building test setups and fixtures for mechanical, electrical, and thermal testing.
  • Ability to conduct stress, thermal, fatigue, and failure testing according to component lifetime requirements.
  • Ability to analyze testing data for accuracy and consistency, and to translate testing data into reliability metrics and lifetime assessments.
  • Experience in creating wiring diagrams and instrumentation lists.
  • Ability to write test automation code using LabView, Ignition, Python, or similar programming languages.
  • Experience in integrating and calibrating various process sensors such as temperature, heat flux, and power measurement sensors to support accurate and reliable thermal system testing.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail in testing and validation.
  • Ability to prioritize safety by implementing and adhering to safety protocols and industry standards throughout testing processes.
