Job Description
The Community Engagement Specialist will work as a part-time consultant to support community engagement efforts for a Just Energy Transition in Colombia, focusing on developing methodologies for community support, improving access to energy, and fostering local development. The role involves collaborating with local stakeholders, building networks, and documenting the impact of community engagement strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead engagement with local universities and partners to support community-centered local development.
- Develop and test methodologies for community support focused on energy access and local development.
- Build a strong network of allies for community-centered local development across Colombia.
- Liaise with government officials to ensure GAH support adds value to public assets and services.
- Use participatory systems thinking methodologies to build capacity across a network of trainers.
- Support local stakeholders in applying learning-centric strategies and capturing evidence.
- Generate communication pieces to reflect progress and lessons learned.
- Represent the Governance Action Hub at relevant events.
- Collaborate with the Governance Action Hub Colombia team to capture local voices and perspectives.
Requirements
- At least 10 years track record in using participatory methodologies at the community level in Colombia.
- Proven capacity to work adaptively as part of a team with different disciplines and perspectives.
- Knowledge of systems thinking and practice, applied political economy and tools to understand and shift behaviors.
- Knowledge of limitations of participatory approaches in the past and the realities of consultation fatigue.
- Ability to work effectively with actors at different levels from community representatives to allies in universities and think tanks to government officials, communicating clearly what is known, what is not and what the implications are.
- Track record of working independently with motivation, while being able to work successfully as part of a team.
- Exceptional written and verbal communications skills with a proven ability to create impactful outputs tailored to diverse audiences.
- Fluency in Spanish and English is required.
- The ability to travel within Colombia, to La Guajira initially, but other regions too, as needed.
