Job Description
An entry-level Scientist I role focused on supporting environmental restoration projects through field data collection, ecological assessments, and monitoring efforts, providing hands-on experience in environmental science and contributing to habitat conservation and mitigation initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Support field data collection and ecological assessments for restoration projects
- Collect and process environmental data such as soil samples, vegetation, and wildlife observations
- Use GPS and GIS tools to record locations and assist in mapping and data entry
- Maintain sampling equipment and ensure data accuracy and documentation
- Contribute to reporting efforts and technical documentation based on collected data
- Assist in understanding and applying environmental regulations and permitting requirements
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in environmental science, biology, ecology, geology, natural resources, or a related field
- 0 to 2 years of field experience, which can include internships, academic fieldwork, or volunteer work related to ecology, biology, or similar areas
- Basic knowledge of scientific methods and data collection using GPS and/or GIS tools
- Familiarity with ecological concepts such as local and native fauna and flora of California, and previous exposure to listed species of the regions
- Experience with field sampling equipment, inventories, or monitoring protocols
- Previous experience with data entry and scientific writing
- Ability to work outdoors in varying conditions and terrain
