Job Description

An entry-level Scientist I position focused on performing stormwater inspections, environmental resource assessments, and sampling in the field to support ecosystem restoration and environmental protection efforts, with opportunities for skill development and mentorship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform NPDES inspections of stormwater assets in the field
  • Conduct environmental resource assessments, water and soil sampling, and monitoring based on interests and qualifications
  • Record and interpret data related to ecosystems, vegetation, soil, and water quality
  • Prepare and review reports based on field activities
  • Utilize GPS and GIS tools for data collection and mapping

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, biology, ecology, geology, natural resources, or a related field
  • 0 to 2 years of field experience, which can include internships, academic fieldwork, or volunteer work
  • Basic knowledge of scientific methods, data collection using GPS and/or GIS tools, and safe field practices
  • Familiarity with ecological concepts such as native species, soil profiles, or hydrology
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying conditions and terrain
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Willingness to perform inspections of stormwater assets, soil sampling, stream bank surveying, vegetation data recording, and other field activities in Florida's hot, humid environment
  • Ability to perform tasks in natural and disturbed land settings with potential exposure to biting and stinging insects, venomous snakes and spiders, wild animals, and other hazards
  • Strong written communication skills for data documentation and reporting
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality data collection
  • Strong work ethic and reliability in team-based fieldwork
