Job Description

The Ecology Intern at RES will assist with fieldwork and data collection related to wetland and stream mitigation projects, gaining hands-on experience in ecological surveys, environmental monitoring, and technical report preparation to support ecosystem restoration efforts in the Gulf Coast region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform fieldwork including delineating streams and wetlands, monitoring vegetation, conducting biological and geomorphic stream surveys, and hydrological monitoring
  • Assist with data entry, technical report preparation, and site maintenance tasks
  • Collaborate with ecology and regulatory personnel to support mitigation projects and compile technical reports
  • Learn and apply principles of Wetland and Stream Mitigation according to Section 404 of the Clean Water Act
  • Produce a monitoring report for a mitigation site and present findings to the Regulatory team

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Biology, Natural Resource Management, Wildlife and Fisheries Science, or a related field
  • Ability to interpret environmental assessments and mapping
  • Demonstrates a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn
  • Experience in field data collection discipline, including delineating streams and wetlands, monitoring vegetation, conducting biological and geomorphic stream surveys, and performing hydrological monitoring
  • Ability to use GPS units and ArcMap software
  • Basic technical writing skills
  • Willingness and ability to work outdoors in harsh and adverse weather conditions, including long, hot, humid summer days in the Gulf Coast
  • Physical ability to walk long distances, climb, bend, lift heavy objects, and perform other physical activities required for fieldwork
  • Willingness to assist with data entry, technical report preparation, and site maintenance tasks as part of administrative responsibilities

Work schedule is flexible with an internship period from May to August, negotiable based on schedule
