The Estimator II at RES is responsible for leading and preparing accurate cost estimates for medium-sized restoration and construction projects, collaborating with teams, mentoring junior staff, and ensuring safety and quality standards are met to support successful project bids and execution.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the estimating effort for medium-sized restoration and construction projects, including complex takeoffs and advanced calculations.
Interpret plans, integrate construction sequencing, and produce accurate, defensible cost estimates to support bids and project execution.
Review and validate estimates prepared by junior estimators, providing feedback and ensuring clarity and accuracy.
Collaborate with project managers, operations leaders, and field teams to align estimates with project plans and safety practices.
Use estimating tools such as Agtek, OST, and Bluebeam to develop detailed cost breakdowns and incorporate construction phasing and production rates.
Mentor and train junior estimators and field staff in reading plans, understanding design intent, and applying safe work practices.
Review project bids, obtain approvals, and communicate complex calculations and strategies to stakeholders.
Requirements
Four years of experience in construction, with at least two years in estimating, or a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree (may substitute for experience).
Experience handling medium-sized bids in the range of 1 to 2 million dollars.
Advanced ability in MS Office, especially Excel formulas, lookups, structured workbooks, as well as proficiency in PowerPoint and Word.
Expertise with estimating software such as Agtek, On-Screen Takeoff (OST), and Bluebeam.
Experience incorporating construction sequence into the estimate, including phasing, production rates, mobilization, and related planning aspects.
Ability to read and interpret construction plan sets and explain advanced design concepts to others.
Knowledge of construction processes and materials, especially related to earthwork, infrastructure, and restoration work.
Established relationships with suppliers and an understanding of how pricing trends affect estimates.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, especially when explaining complex calculations or cost drivers to management and project managers.
Ability to work collaboratively across estimating, project management, and field operations to resolve questions and align on assumptions.
