Job Description
The Ecologist at RES will conduct ecological assessments, develop restoration plans, and support environmental mitigation projects across the Midwest, utilizing their expertise in ecology, regulatory compliance, and fieldwork to promote ecosystem restoration and sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform ecological field assessments such as wetland delineations, stream assessments, vegetation monitoring, and habitat surveys
- Prepare ecological studies, scientific reports, restoration plans, and natural resources assessments
- Understand and apply federal and state environmental regulations and permitting processes related to mitigation projects
- Support business development by preparing proposals and developing new client relationships
- Manage ecological project tasks, resources, and personnel to ensure project delivery
- Coordinate and collaborate with team members, clients, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders
- Maintain accurate project records, manage administrative tasks, and ensure compliance with company procedures
Requirements
- Possess a Bachelor’s Degree in ecology or a related field, such as wetland science, botany, or wildlife biology, and have 5-7 years of experience in ecological profession.
- Have advanced knowledge of local and regional flora, fauna, and ecological systems.
- Demonstrate ecological identification skills, including the ability to identify plants, animals, ecological communities, wetlands, soils, and other relevant elements.
- Have experience with GPS units, ArcGIS, and/or other ESRI field data collection software.
- Have a thorough understanding of restoration ecology theory, principles, and practices, and the ability to apply them to projects.
- Have experience with state and federal environmental regulations and permitting processes, specifically CWA Sections 404 and 401, and state and federal endangered species programs.
- Demonstrate the ability to perform professional ecological work, such as conducting independent studies, complex data analyses, and developing restoration plans.
