A hands-on environmental restoration technician role involving outdoor work, equipment operation, invasive species management, planting, and habitat restoration projects to help improve ecosystems and water quality.
Key Responsibilities
Operate specialized equipment such as trucks, UTVs, brush cutters, augers, and chainsaws in outdoor environments.
Use GPS mapping systems to navigate and document restoration work.
Identify native and invasive plant species to guide restoration activities.
Apply herbicides using backpack and hand sprayers to manage invasive species.
Perform planting and seeding to restore ecosystems.
Maintain and perform basic upkeep on equipment as needed.
Participate in habitat management techniques such as prescribed burns (if certified).
Requirements
High School degree or equivalent.
Reliable means of transportation to get to the field office.
Keen interest in natural resources and outdoors.
Ability to lift 50lbs, walk over uneven surfaces and up and down hills, climb on construction equipment, and work outdoors and in inclement weather.
Ability to read and understand project plans, details, and specifications.
One year of work experience in ecological restoration.
One year of experience mixing and applying herbicides for managing invasive species.
One year of experience performing planting and seeding techniques.
Commercial Pesticide Technician Apprentice License in the applicable categories for the assigned state.
Knowledge of native and invasive plant species applicable to the assigned state.
