Job Description
The Systems Engineer, New Products at Redwood Materials is responsible for leading the design, development, and integration of new battery-related products, ensuring system performance, safety, and compliance through modeling, testing, and cross-disciplinary collaboration in a fast-paced startup environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and integrate new product systems.
- Define system requirements and evaluate system architectures.
- Perform system modeling, simulation, and testing to validate performance.
- Establish interface definitions across mechanical, electrical, and software components.
- Optimize system architecture to meet product metrics such as cost, efficiency, and energy density.
- Ensure system safety and reliability through risk assessments and hazard analyses.
Requirements
- BS or MS in Mechanical Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field and 5 years of design engineering or system engineering experience.
- Excellent first-principles physics understanding of electrical and mechanical systems, power delivery, energy transformation, and basic thermal mechanics.
- Experience with power electronics product development.
- Proficiency in system modeling tools such as Python or Matlab.
- Experience with requirement management tools like Doors, Jama, etc.
- Demonstrated ability to write clear and testable engineering requirements.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to perform the essential job functions safely and successfully in accordance with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
- Ability to work in challenging working conditions which may include exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and temperature extremes, while protected by PPE, for extended periods of time.
- Essential physical requirements such as climbing, standing, stooping, or typing.
- Ability to occasionally work weekends, nights, or be on-call as a regular part of the job.
- Occasional travel requirements.

Salary range: $100,000 - $200,000 USD
