Job Description

A senior chemical engineer at Redwood Materials supports the development, optimization, and commissioning of hydrometallurgy refining plants and related processes, contributing to battery recycling and sustainable materials production through process improvement, design, and cross-functional collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure processes are safe, efficient, sustainable, and continuously improving in collaboration with operations and maintenance teams
  • Lead and participate in cross-functional teams to develop and implement new process plants and equipment
  • Design, test, and operate flowsheets and pilot plants for hydrometallurgy refining processes
  • Support process plant implementation, installation, commissioning, and ramp-up activities
  • Conduct process modeling, trade-off evaluations, and financial assessments for process development

Requirements

  • A B.S. or M.S. in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, or related discipline
  • 5 - 7 years experience in Chemical Plant Operations and or Design and Commissioning
  • Large scale industrial processing experience
  • Operational support and track record of solving difficult chemical and metallurgical process problems and making plant improvements
  • Testwork and pilot plant design and operating experience
  • Process modelling experience with HSCSIM, SysCAD, METSIM, and equipment sizing linking testwork and pilot plant operation to real project implementation
  • Experience in trade-off studies and financial evaluation
  • Process plant design and commissioning experience
  • Track record of solving difficult chemical and metallurgical processing problems, with metallurgical processing experience in mineral processing, hydrometallurgy, pyrometallurgy, or electrometallurgy (desired but not essential)
  • Self-motivated with a hands-on approach who takes the initiative
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Physical ability to safely perform job duties in both office and production environments
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. as needed
  • Must be able to communicate clearly
  • Willingness to work in challenging conditions which may include exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and temperature extremes, while protected by PPE
  • Availability to work in a split environment between office and production facility, including occasional extended periods in the production environment
  • Willingness to work in challenging working conditions which may include exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and temperature extremes, while protected by PPE
  • May require occasional work on weekends or alternate shifts to support production needs
