Job Description

The Operations Packaging Supervisor is a frontline leadership role responsible for safely and efficiently leading finished-product packaging operations at Redwood Materials’ McCarran facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead daily finished-product packaging operations with an uncompromising commitment to safety, environmental compliance, product quality, customer requirements, and operational discipline.
  • Supervise, coach, train, and develop a diverse team of packaging operators to deliver safe, reliable, and cost-effective production.
  • Maintain a strong and consistent presence on the production floor and model the safety, quality, accountability, and operational behaviors expected from the team.
  • Set clear daily performance expectations, assign work, provide timely feedback, and hold team members accountable for results and behaviors.
  • Coordinate packaging schedules, staffing, and production priorities based on finished-product availability, customer orders, packaging-material availability, equipment readiness, and shipment requirements.
  • Oversee packaging activities that may include filling, weighing, sealing, wrapping, labeling, container preparation, palletizing, sampling, material staging, and finished-product handling.
  • Ensure finished battery materials and energy-storage products are packaged according to approved product specifications, customer requirements, and established work instructions.
  • Verify the accuracy of product identification, labels, weights, quantities, lot information, containers, seals, documentation, and other traceability requirements.
  • Ensure packaged products meet established standards for container integrity, cleanliness, protection, presentation, and shipment readiness.
  • Maintain product identity and lot traceability throughout the packaging and staging process.
  • Prevent product contamination, material mixing, incorrect labeling, packaging damage, and other conditions that could affect finished-product quality or customer acceptance.
  • Monitor production performance and key performance indicators related to safety, quality, packaging accuracy, throughput, labor efficiency, equipment uptime, waste, rework, schedule attainment, and cost.
  • Ensure operators consistently follow standardized work instructions, packaging specifications, quality controls, material-handling procedures, and escalation requirements.
  • Confirm that packaging materials, containers, labels, pallets, liners, seals, and other supplies are available and appropriate for scheduled production.
  • Coordinate with Production teams to manage the transfer of completed materials and products into the packaging process.
  • Partner with Warehouse and Logistics teams to ensure finished products are properly identified, staged, stored, and released for customer shipment.
  • Partner with Quality to address packaging defects, labeling errors, weight discrepancies, damaged containers, traceability issues, contamination concerns, and other nonconforming conditions.
  • Ensure nonconforming or potentially affected products are promptly identified, contained, documented, and escalated.
  • Partner with Maintenance and Engineering teams to improve packaging-equipment reliability, reduce downtime, and support preventive and corrective maintenance activities.
  • Identify and resolve production bottlenecks, equipment interruptions, labor constraints, packaging-material shortages, and workflow issues affecting customer-ready output.
  • Support equipment startups, shutdowns, changeovers, production trials, and the introduction of new packaging equipment, materials, products, or processes.
  • Participate in safety and quality incident investigations, root-cause analysis, and the implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Review production records, downtime information, quality results, customer requirements, and operator feedback to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Lead shift meetings, communicate safety topics and production priorities, and ensure effective operational handoffs between shifts.
  • Maintain accurate production, quality, traceability, training, inventory, downtime, and shift documentation.
  • Support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of standard operating procedures, packaging specifications, and operator training materials.
  • Reinforce housekeeping, workplace organization, tool control, inventory accuracy, and material-control standards throughout the packaging area.
  • Support employee hiring, onboarding, qualification, cross-training, attendance management, performance management, and professional development.
  • Drive a culture of safety, ownership, teamwork, accountability, problem-solving, customer focus, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Five or more years of experience in packaging, manufacturing, production operations, industrial processing, battery materials, chemical materials, warehousing, material handling, or a similar operational environment.
  • Previous experience in a supervisor, team lead, trainer, or other frontline leadership role strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated success coaching employees, improving performance, building engagement, and developing operator capability.
  • Experience leading packaging, finished-goods, production, warehouse, or material-handling operations in an industrial environment.
  • Experience packaging manufactured materials or products to defined quality specifications and customer requirements.
  • Working knowledge of packaging processes such as filling, weighing, sealing, labeling, wrapping, palletizing, container preparation, lot identification, and finished-product staging.
  • Experience working with industrial packaging and material-handling equipment such as conveyors, filling systems, scales, sealers, labelers, wrappers, pallet-handling equipment, and forklifts.
  • Experience managing product identification, lot traceability, labeling accuracy, packaging documentation, or finished-product quality controls.
  • Strong hazard-recognition skills with the ability to teach and reinforce safe work practices.
  • Solid understanding of manufacturing operations, process discipline, standardized work, quality controls, and operational procedures.
  • Experience monitoring production KPIs and using data to improve safety, quality, throughput, labor efficiency, equipment uptime, waste, schedule attainment, or cost.
  • Ability to identify operational abnormalities, perform initial troubleshooting, and coordinate effectively with Maintenance, Engineering, and Quality teams.
  • Experience participating in incident investigations, root-cause analysis, and corrective-action processes.
  • Familiarity with computerized manufacturing, inventory, warehouse, quality, or production-control systems preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey expectations, production priorities, customer requirements, and operational issues clearly and effectively.
  • Self-motivated, accountable, and capable of driving issues to resolution using available resources.
  • Ability to work effectively across Production, Quality, Maintenance, Engineering, Warehouse, Logistics, and site leadership teams.
  • Passion for sustainability, environmental responsibility, operational excellence, customer satisfaction, and continuous improvement.
  • Work schedule may vary depending on site operational needs, and flexibility is required.
  • Must be willing and able to work the assigned shift, including nights, weekends, holidays, overtime, or rotating schedules when required.
  • Ability to work in challenging working conditions which may include exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and temperature extremes, while protected by PPE, for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and regularly work on the production floor.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. as needed.
